What is a Charter School?
Charter schools are tuition free public schools created on the basis of a contract or “charter” between the charter school and a local school board. A charter school has more freedom than a traditional public school in return for a commitment to meet higher standards of accountability. Most charter schools in Wisconsin function as part of the public school district after being authorized by the local board. The staff members remain employees of the District. The charter school students are afforded the same opportunities as the District's other students.
What Will iLEAD Provide?

  • iLEAD will offer another quality public school option for parents and students.

  • iLEAD will serve the needs of both traditional and nontraditional learners.

  • iLEAD will tap already existing local and regional partnerships including Juneau County Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club, Western Technical College, business and civil organizations, and other economic development agencies.

  • iLEAD is the first school of its kind in the state.

iLEAD Charter School Application

The iLEAD Charter School application deadline for the 2012–2013 school year is March 30, 2012. Complete applications and all supporting documents must be turned in by that date for a student to be included in the lottery. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. If all seats are not filled by 4:00 PM on March 30, 2012, registration will continue indefinitely. Please note: For students living outside the School District of Mauston, the open enrollment application deadline is Feb 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM. The open enrollment application must be completed prior to submitting the iLEAD Charter School application.
